Easy Classic Elderflower Cordial Recipe
Among the most refreshing beverages for summer time is the elderflower cordial. This recipe is fast, simple to create, and also a wonderful excuse to get a lengthy walk gathering flowers.
The elderflower period is brief –late May to mid-July if you reside in the north or south in Scotland. The oriental flowers make a wonderful, refreshing beverage that, when kept in sterilized bottles can keep for many weeks.
A word of caution –if you’re out collecting elderflowers, then be sure to have permission to select them rather than select flowers from trees on roadsides because they might be tainted with gasoline fumes.
Even though the cordial does create a refreshing beverage, it also can be useful in a number of other recipes too.
How To Prepare The Dish ?
- Collect the ingredients.
- Put the sugar in a large saucepan, stockpot, or even a large Pyrex bowl. Pour the boiling water and stir till all of the sugar has dissolved and let cool.
- Grate the rind of the lemons with a fine grater and add to the sugar .
- Slice the lemons into thick pieces and increase the water.
- Add the citric acid and then stir fry.
- In the end, put in the flower heads into the water and then stir .
- Cover with a clean cloth and leave to steep for 48 hours.
- Strain through a fresh nice muslin cloth into a clean bowl.
- Using a funnel, fill sterilized glass bottles (see note below).
Seal and store in a cool, dark place (not the fridge ) for a couple weeks or procedure in a water tub to conserve for storage.
Another choice is to suspend plastic bottles.
As soon as you open a jar, it has to be kept in the fridge.
The cordial is yummy diluted with or carbonated water or used as a flavoring in ice creams, fruit fools (puréed fruit blended with whipped cream), along with other recipes.
